Bandar Abbas, Iran – Xweb.biz.id – A massive explosion rocked Shahid Rajaee Port, a critical hub in Bandar Abbas, southern Iran, on Saturday, April 26, 2025. The explosion, believed to have been caused by chemicals in a gas tank, has claimed the lives of at least 25 people and left around 1,000 others injured. The number of fatalities initially reported as 14 quickly rose as emergency response teams continued to assess the damage.
Despite the scale of the tragedy, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu RI) and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran (KBRI Teheran) have confirmed that no Indonesian nationals (WNI) were among the victims.
According to a statement from Kemlu RI Spokesperson Rolliansyah (Roy) Soemirat on Sunday, April 27, 2025, the embassy in Tehran reported that there were no reports of Indonesian nationals being caught in the explosion. “KBRI Teheran has confirmed that, as of now, no Indonesian nationals have been reported as victims in this explosion,” said Roy in a written statement.
Reports from the embassy indicate that approximately 385 Indonesians reside in Iran, the majority of whom are students living in Qom, with a few others residing in the capital city of Tehran. Notably, there are no Indonesians registered as living in Bandar Abbas, where the explosion occurred.
While two Indonesian nationals were working as crew members in the port last year, both have since returned to Indonesia.
The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran has been actively coordinating with Iranian authorities and the local Indonesian community in various parts of Iran to ensure the safety of its citizens. “Kemlu RI and KBRI Teheran will continue to monitor the situation and the conditions of Indonesian nationals in Iran regularly to provide the latest updates,” added Roy.
Indonesian nationals in need of assistance or further information are encouraged to contact KBRI Teheran’s hotline at +989024668889.
The explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port has sparked widespread concern due to the heavy casualties and the extensive damage to the surrounding area. Iranian authorities have been working swiftly to provide medical assistance and investigate the cause of the blast. While the situation remains fluid, the Indonesian government remains committed to supporting its citizens and providing timely information as the situation evolves.
