Batang, Central Java – Xweb.biz.id — Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi has rolled out two major policies in celebration of International Workers’ Day 2025: reducing Trans Jateng bus fares for workers to just Rp1,000 and mandating daycare facilities in all companies across industrial zones in the province.
Speaking during the inauguration of a new daycare and women’s shelter at the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KITB), Governor Luthfi emphasized the government’s commitment to easing the burden on workers.
“Affordable and accessible transportation is crucial. Previously, workers paid Rp2,000 per trip. Now, they will only pay Rp1,000—just like students,” Luthfi said on Thursday (1/5).
He noted that many workers do not own private vehicles, and even when they do, these are often prioritized for use by other family members such as spouses or children.
“This subsidy aims to make Trans Jateng buses the primary choice for commuting. Reducing transportation costs will help ease the daily financial burden on our workforce,” he added.
In a progressive move for working parents, Luthfi also announced a new requirement for all companies in Central Java’s industrial zones to provide daycare facilities. A circular letter has been issued to enforce this policy.
“With daycare in the workplace, workers—especially mothers—can work more comfortably and with greater focus. This directly contributes to increased productivity,” said Luthfi.
One such daycare has already been established at KITB, equipped to accommodate 40 children. Operating from 7 AM to 4 PM, the center offers air-conditioned rooms, educational toys, soft bedding, and trained caregivers providing professional child development support.
“It’s not just a daycare—it’s a safe, educational, and comfortable environment for children, which gives peace of mind to their working parents,” he concluded.
Governor Luthfi’s policies were welcomed by local labor unions and workers, who see them as concrete actions that reflect the government’s recognition of laborers’ rights and needs.
