Jakarta, Xweb.biz.id – Indonesia’s Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, made headlines this week after firmly stating he would not use his position or connections to help his son secure a job. Despite his son’s ongoing job search, the minister insists on letting him face the process independently.

In a statement reshared by popular Instagram account @lambegosiip on Monday (May 19), Yassierli said:
“I don’t want to help my child find a job. My child is currently busy looking for a job.”

Teaching Independence Through Experience

Yassierli explained that he deliberately chose not to interfere in his child’s career journey, as he believes it is important to develop independence and resilience.
Don’t assume that it’s easy for ministers’ children to find work, and that must be remembered,” he said.

According to him, constant parental assistance—especially from those in high-ranking positions—can prevent young people from learning to survive on their own.

“If We Always Help, They Won’t Grow”

While acknowledging that he has the ability and networks to help, Yassierli emphasized the importance of fairness and meritocracy.
“If I want to help my child, of course I can. But I don’t want to spoil him,” he said.

“I can contact my network, but that way it will not make our children independent. If we continue to help, the children will not develop,” he continued.

Commitment to Transparency, Even for His Own Family

The minister concluded by saying that the principle of transparency and equal opportunity should apply to everyone, including the children of government officials.

“We want to be fair, transparent, objective, free, and open — including for a minister’s child,” he asserted.
