“The incident took place during the boarding process prior to the departure of Flight IW-1267 from Gunungsitoli to Medan,” the statement read.

What Led to the Altercation?

The confrontation began when MZ attempted to carry a checked luggage item into the cabin. According to aviation safety protocols, passengers are required to place checked luggage in the cargo hold. When the flight attendant asked MZ to move the luggage to the appropriate location, MZ refused and attempted to remove the baggage label. Despite the flight crew’s calm and persuasive explanation, the passenger remained uncooperative and eventually became physically aggressive, pushing and choking the flight attendant.

“Instead of complying with the instructions, the passenger took physical action by pushing and choking one of the flight attendants,” said Wings Air’s official statement.

Immediate Response from Authorities

Upon being notified of the situation, the airline’s Pilot in Command (PIC) and ground operations team took immediate action. Airport security (AVSEC) intervened and removed the passenger from the flight before departure.

The incident quickly gained public attention after a video of the altercation was shared on social media, particularly Instagram. The video, uploaded by the account @folkkoniha, showed a woman arguing with a flight attendant in the cabin. Many social media users speculated that the woman in the video was MZ, the member of the DPRD Sumut.

The video sparked an outpouring of anger from the public. Social media users criticized the behavior of the passenger and demanded that legal action be taken.

Wings Air’s Stance on Legal Action
